We are seeking an experienced, passionate midwife to take on a joint leadership role across our Triage and Birth Centre. This is a unique opportunity for someone who can champion a physiological, low risk birth centre, while also confidently leading a team within the busy environment of labour ward triage.

The role will demonstrate clinical expertise in both areas and will involve teaching the BSOTS pathway to all qualified staff employed within the maternity unit. Using the BSOTS (Birmingham Symptom Specific Obstetric Triage System) as the unique safety tool for maternity care provides an intuitive system to clinically prioritise care for pregnant women attending the triage department and ideal opportunity to risk assess and signpost to our Midwifery led Birth Centre.

He/she will be expected to ensure the provision of a high-quality service to women and their families in line with best practice, local, regional and national guidance.

Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.

The Ward Manager post will focus on the day-to-day operational management and leadership for the staff and services provided on the Birth Centre and Labour Ward Triage . He/she will demonstrate professional expertise supporting births agreed outside of guidance. The postholder will be expected to maintain clinical expertise, undertaking Band 7 duties in line with the needs of the service and be required to work clinical as required.

Accountable for own actions in accordance with the Code of Professional Conduct. Will contribute to corporate objectives, and performance targets, acting within local, Trust and statutory guidelines and policies at all times.

Highly developed communication skills enabling maintenance of high-quality service and ensuring timely management and resolution of unexpected events and situations. Undertake bleep-holder and on call responsibilities for the maternity unit on a regular basis.

A knowledgeable leader and resource for staff, advising on national, local and Trust policy and procedures/guidelines, ensuring that clinical governance is embedded in practice. Will support staff and users in service and policy development within a defined area/specialty.

• Responsible for identifying and assessing complex clinical and non-clinical issues, implementing resolutions and monitoring/auditing outcomes.

• Will promote positive interpersonal relationships and be confident in challenging poor clinical practice or poor attitude.
• Responsible for interdepartmental/ organisational activities including sickness and absence management, completing appraisals and answering complaints in accordance with expected target times.
• To participate in the on-call rota within the unit to maintain safe staffing.
