Summary

The UK’s most sensitive information and most important capabilities are enabled and protected using high grade government encryption (known as ‘Crypt-Key’). This unique technology enables MODs systems to be robustly secure, despite working over untrusted networks, in the face of the most technically advanced, hostile and persistent global threats.

As Cyber Security Advisor, you’ll be responsible for the provision of specialist Crypt Key technical advice, guidance and/or direction, across the MOD Crypt Key enterprise – including the Joint Crypt Key Programme (JCKP), where MOD partners with the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC).

In this role, you’ll also be responsible for ensuring the risk associated with obsolescent capabilities is swiftly mitigated and that new cryptographic capabilities are identified, developed and implemented.

You’ll work closely with allied nations, enabling the development and maintenance of modern, secure interoperability standards and specifications. More fundamentally, you’ll facilitate the UK Armed Forces being able to deploy globally, working with allies, with complete confidence in its secure digital systems and capabilities.

This role will require routine travel within the UK and occasionally overseas and you’ll routinely represent CyDR, the MOD and UK interests, whilst working with the Military Commands, other Government departments and international partners such as the US, NATO and Five Eyes Nations.

Responsibilities

Drive technical transformation through the coordination and implementation of the Defence Crypt-Key Plan (to underpin MOD implementation of the National Cyber and Crypt-Key Strategies).
Drive improved obsolescence management, technological change and standards-based interoperability through engagement across MOD, NCSC and wider government and overseas partners. Ensure all key stakeholders have one understanding of CK obsolescence, modernisation roadmaps, roles and responsibilities, and strategic technical risks.
Identify and reduce Defence enterprise-wide Crypt-Key risk, through the proactive management of obsolescence and obsolescent capabilities. Ensuring coordinated plans are generated across UK Strategic Command, Military Commands and Allies, ensuring early intervention for the UK to remain ahead of advanced and persistent threats.
Provide subject matter expertise, guidance and/or direction to the Joint Crypt Key Programme (JCKP) to ensure the programme transformation roadmap and associated capabilities can deliver successfully.
