Winter Hosts
Fixed Term Contract from mid November 2025 to 4 January 2026
£12.21 per hour (aged 21 years and above) £10.00 per hour (aged between 20 years and under)
Various hours available over a 7-day week, majority evening and weekend work
We are looking for enthusiastic, customer focused people to join us during our winter and Christmas season. This is a busy and exciting time as we welcome visitors, including families and schools, delivering a memorable festive experience. There will be lots happening in the science centre including live shows, our Santa Experience and festive making activities, plus our popular outdoor ice rink. Duties are varied and include welcoming and helping visitors in the centre, allocating ice skates and assisting on the rink and serving in our food and drink areas.
You will be lively, energetic and friendly, have good communication and customer service skills and be flexible to cover various shifts, the majority of which will be outdoors. You may be required to wear a Santa hat or similar- it’s Christmas time after all! Previous experience in a customer focused role is essential.
The science centre is a seven day a week business, including evenings and Christmas and school holidays (excluding Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day) so physical stamina, good humour and the ability to work at a high standard for long periods are all essential pre-requisites of the role. You must also be available throughout the full winter season.
Life is a welcoming and friendly place to work. We offer a range of benefits to support your wellbeing, including access to wellbeing initiatives, an Employee Assistance Programme, a health cash plan with a 24/7 GP service line, and discounted car parking in the centre of Newcastle.
The successful applicant will be subject to a DBS check. Details of our DBS policy are available on request. For further information regarding this post, please refer to the applicant pack on our website
