Senior Support Worker – Children’s Residential Care

Locations: Position available in LE2, LE3 and LE10
Salary: £28,080 per annum + additional payments for sleep-in duties
Reporting to: Residential Manager

Role Overview

We are with a client who is seeking an experienced Senior Support Worker to join our residential care team, supporting young people aged 12–17. You will play a vital role in providing a safe, nurturing, and therapeutic environment, while leading shifts, mentoring staff, and ensuring high-quality care in line with policies, legislation, and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities
1. Supporting Young People

Deliver safe, therapeutic care in line with the home’s Statement of Purpose.

Support daily routines (education, appointments, activities, personal care).

Maintain accurate care plans, risk assessments, and LAC documentation.

Promote positive behaviour, emotional wellbeing, and inclusion.

Respond to individual needs (culture, religion, gender identity, disability).

Ensure attendance at education and therapy sessions.

Identify and respond to signs of abuse, distress, or crisis.

Advocate for young people at meetings and reviews.

2. Teamwork & Collaboration

Work closely with staff, managers, therapists, schools, and families.

Attend team meetings, contributing to planning and decision-making.

Support new staff through induction, mentoring, and modelling best practice.

3. Leadership & Shift Management

Lead shifts, allocate tasks, and oversee handovers.

Supervise and support care staff in daily duties.

Promote high standards of professionalism and therapeutic practice.

Deputise for senior managers when required.

Support team development through supervision, training, and feedback.

4. Administration & Reporting

Maintain accurate records (logs, incidents, finances, care plans).

Prepare written reports for statutory reviews and meetings.

Monitor budgets and escalate concerns to the Registered Manager.

5. Household & Environment

Ensure the home is safe, clean, and welcoming.

Support with household duties (meals, cleaning, shopping).

Encourage young people to engage in maintaining their environment.

Adhere to Health & Safety and Fire Safety requirements.

6. Professional Development

Commit to continuous learning and development.

Complete mandatory training (safeguarding, first aid, behaviour support).

Work towards Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management (Children & Young People).

Safeguarding & Compliance

Promote safeguarding and child protection at all times.

Report concerns in line with safeguarding policies.

Maintain confidentiality and professionalism.

Uphold equality, diversity, and human rights in all practice.

Person Specification
Essential

Full UK manual driving licence (required to transport young people).

Minimum 2 years’ experience working with young people with complex needs/behaviours.

Experience of leading shifts and supervising care staff.

Strong knowledge of child protection, trauma, behaviour management, and multi-agency working.

Ability to write reports, manage rotas, and support staff effectively.

Desirable

NVQ Level 3 in Children & Young People.

Level 4/5 in Health & Social Care.

Training in First Aid, Food Hygiene, and Safeguarding.

Experience attending LAC reviews, supporting children with ASC or mental health needs.

Additional Information

Full-time role, including evenings, weekends, and paid sleep-ins.

Rota pattern: 1 day on, 2 days off.

Participation in the on-call rota may be required.

Must hold or be willing to work towards Level 5 Diploma in Leadership (Children & Young People).

Enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references are required.
