Pay rate: £18.50 to £20.00 per hour PAYE, dependent on experience
Contract Type: Temporary, Anticipated 2 months
Working Arrangement: Role is for 3 days per week - Part time, with 21 hours per week.
The role:
On behalf of a local council, we are seeking an Information Governance Support Officer to support the Council’s Legal Services Team and Data Protection Officer to ensure that the council meets its obligations in relation to data protection, freedom of information and information management. You will report to the Data Protection Officer.
You should have previous experience in the field of Information Management and Freedom of Information, along with a good understanding of the role of Local Government and Strong knowledge of Data Protection Act 2018, UK GDPR, Freedom of Information Act, and related legislation, with experience supporting compliance across a public sector or large organisation.
Key Responsibilities:
Undertake information governance audits and advise on and manage business change projects to improve records management in the organisation
Draft committee and CLT reports
Regular contact with other services, residents and elected members
Records Management duties – auditing storage areas, reviewing software, destruction of files
Reviewing existing policies and create new policies where appropriate
Conduct Information Sharing Agreement Reviews
Conduct and support officers with Data Protection Impact Assessments
Supporting ICT ensuring continued security of our information assets
Supporting the Data Protection Officer and Legal Team where required
Supporting in ensuring that the Council’s website and internal SharePoint page is up-to-date
What the client is looking for:
Experienced in Information Management, FOI, and governance within local government/large organisations.
Good understanding of the role of Local Government and the environment within which it operates
Strong knowledge of Data Protection Act 2018, UK GDPR, FOI Act, and compliance.
Skilled in auditing storage systems, retention schedules, and secure file destruction.
Proven ability to draft and implement governance policies and procedures.
Experienced in governance audits, reporting, and recommending improvements.
Proficient in DPIAs and Information Sharing Agreement reviews.
Knowledge of information security; collaborative with ICT teams.
Strong communication, negotiation, and influencing skills.
Excellent planning, organisation, and analytical abilities.
Experience managing intranet and public website content.
Skilled in supporting legal teams and Data Protection Officers.
