The Opportunity:
We are seeking a Systems Administrator to play a pivotal role across the College of Science and Engineering. This college-wide position is focused on building, maintaining, and ensuring the continuity and resilience of various systems critical to our operations. The role includes managing an expansive on-premise Linux estate, which features Ceph storage, an OpenNebula virtual machine cluster, compute servers, web servers, and a Linux remote desktop service. The role demands proactive collaboration with colleagues throughout the College and coordination with the University’s Information Services to support our diverse technological ecosystem.
This post is fixed-term (for 18 months) and full-time (35 hours per week).
We are open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working.
The salary for this post is at Grade UE07: £41,064 - £48,822 per annum.
Your skills and attributes for success:
Experience of administering Linux / Unix based operating systems.
Experience of configuration management systems.
Programming skills in one or more scripting languages – e.g. Python, Perl and shell scripts.
Programming skills in compiled languages such as C or Fortran would be useful.
Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
Calm and organised under pressure.
Experienced in change and incident management.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with staff and students with widely varied levels of technical expertise in computing.
