Summary
As the Unit Welfare Officer you will be responsible for:
Dealing with day-to-day welfare cases. These can often involve service personnel and their families in states of personal crisis. These will need to be responded to in a sensitive and timely manner, assessing their level of need whilst advising the chain of command of potential courses of compassionate action that supports operational effectiveness
Report, brief, and advise the Regiments Command Group and chain of command on welfare matters via the provision of authoritative advice, guidance, and professional judgement
Make compassionate recommendations up to and including compassionate assignments and extensions. Also play a key role in potential compassionate discharge
Identifying casework trends and concerns to ensure appropriate pro-active and reactive responses
Budget responsibilities through delegated responsibility for the President of the Regimental Institute (PRI) Welfare Fund
Routinely liaise with the Unit Medical Officer to discuss sensitive welfare cases
Be the primary interface and represent the regiment at meetings with external agencies such as Army Welfare Service, Social Services, Moray Council, Police Scotland, NHS Grampian and Schools within Forres Assosciated School Group
Attend meetings and seminars associated with service personnel, families, and veterans, such as: Armed Forces Covenant, Associated Schools Group, Domestic Abuse Conference
Coordinate and organise the quarterly 39 Engineer Regiment Welfare Steering Group to ensure that the unit’s welfare strategy is relevant and delivering the best effect for the soldiers and their families
Represent the families of 39 Engineer Regiment and be the primary interface between them and the Service Family Accommodation provider and attend regular residents’ meetings. This can often include mediation between families and the provider
Ensure welfare services are promoted through the workplace induction package. Additionally, they should be promulgated through internal and external communication platforms such as social media and SharePoint
Deliver bespoke pre-deployment welfare briefs to service personnel and their families prior to overseas deployments and major exercises actively promoting the aims and objectives of 39 Engineer Regiment. These can be done in person but also given online to families that don’t live locally
There may on occasion be a requirement to travel, including overnight stays.
