JOB PURPOSE The personal safety at all times of the patients, staff and visitors. The protection of property against fraud, theft and criminal damage, to ensure the smooth uninterrupted delivery of health care. JOB SUMMARY The Senior Security Officer will undertake, under own initiative, a full range of security duties to help prevent, deter and detect crime to protect all Trust property. MAIN DUTES AND RESPONSIBILITES PROFESSIONAL 1. Responsible for the supervision of internal security staff and external contractors. 2. External patrol of all properties as directed to detect and prevent intruder damage. 3. Patrol of grounds and building to prevent damage by fire, flood and theft. 4. Undertake official driving duties as required. 5. To operate trust vehicles in a reasonable manner, complying with all current road traffic regulations 6. Check window and doors on vulnerable property and the securing of same as required. 7. Deal with disturbances and the escorting of unauthorised person off the premises. 8. Provide a Ward/Department presence in situations where patients and/or visitors are being or potentially being violent or aggressive. 9. Carry out investigations when required of any loss or breaches of security and undertake any other follow-up enquiries as necessary. 10. Assist at the scene of road traffic accident within hospital grounds and at the scene of major incidents. 11. Provide an escort when requested for staff in vulnerable locations. 12. Assist in transferring resuscitation equipment within the hospital in an emergency and other transport duties when required. 13. Provide security assistance as required in accordance with Emergency Response Procedure, Missing Patient Policy and Emergency Planning Policy. 14. Deal with all aspects of car parking related issues including complaints. 15. Supervise car parks and support drivers with provision of information in relation available spaces within car parks. 16. To be fully conversant with all operational aspects of CCTV systems in relation to the recording and storage of images. 17. To be fully conversant in the Trust Policy regarding data protection and information governance, especially in relation to recorded data on security systems. 18. Assist at scenes of fire alarms in accordance with Trust policy. 19. Act as hospital key holder and respond to issue requests as necessary. 120. Train and support new security officers to settle into their new role to ensure a productive security service. COMMUNICATION 1. To liaise on a daily basis with security management on daily activities and updates. 2. To report incidents on burglaries, criminal damage, intruder complaints and all other reportable crime. 3. Report incidents, in writing, in line with Trust Incident Reporting Procedure and maintain authorised records relating to duties. 4. Utilisation of computerised systems in relation to car parking and security. 5. Liaise with outside agencies including requesting police assistance when required. 6. Review practical aspects of security and acquaint the Security Management with any associated problem. 7. Encourage staff to develop an awareness in crime prevention and the protection of hospital property. 8. Communicating with the victims of violence, de-escalating of violent incidents, and calming of violent/distressed people. 9. Promote a Pro-security environment to create a safe and secure environment on all Trust premises. 10. To ensure all work is carried out in a risk free manner and to liaise with the Security Manager to find solutions to the identified risks 11. To Advise the Security Manager of any out of hours complaints regarding security and car parking issues. 12. To investigate complaints when requested by the Security Manager and report all findings RESOURCES AND FINANCE 1. Perform all Trust banking requirements as per Financial Standing Instructions. 2. Ensure security of all Trust cash movement/collections. 3. Ensure the safe custody of all lost/found property. TRAINING AND EDUCATION 1. Support the Security Manager to induct and assist in the training of all new starters particularly out of normal working hours. 2. Have health, safety and welfare of self and others and to comply at all times with the requirements of the Health and Safety Regulations and the Working Time Directive. 3. Apply control and restraint techniques as per the approved care and responsibility criteria. MANAGEMENT/LEADERSHIP PEOPLE/SELF 1. To supervise staff and contractors, ensuring fair allocation of work, customer satisfaction is maintained and developed. 2. To implement Trust policies and guidelines to staff. 3. Undertake duties of a lower grade as appropriate. 4. The requirement to accurately hand over their period of duty to their colleagues to maintain continuity of service. 5. To work with minimum supervision and where required by rota commitment to work alone. PATIENT CONTACT 1. Deal with both in-patients and out-patients, on a face-to-face basis, in circumstances involving violent/aggressive behaviour. 2. Receive complaints of crime from patients. MISCELLANEOUS 1. To report accidents/incidents immediately and in accordance with Trust policy. 2. To be courteous and polite at all times to service users and provide a friendly efficient service. 3. To work closely with Ward Managers and work along side patients and have an understanding of their needs whilst carrying out duties. 4. Establish good working relationships with all points of contact with facilities users, ensuring they are kept informed about the progress of work as required. 7. To take reasonable precautions when handling Trust property. 8. The postholder may be required to carry out duties which are of lesser skill nature than the post for which he/she is employed. 9. The postholder will be expected to work at any properties throughout the Trust as instructed by the Security Manager. 10. The postholder will on occasions be required to work overtime/change working hours if the need of service dictates. 11. All Trust employees are expected to maintain existing skills and develop/receive training in new skills as required to carry out work of the Trust. 12. To ensure the appropriate use of safety and protective clothing and equipment, as required by good working practice and the Health and Safety at Work Act. 13. To read understand and apply safety guidance notes, hazard letters, fire instructions and other such documents as issued to the postholder by Security Manager. 14. It is the responsibility of all Trust employees to ensure that all duties are carried out in accordance with best practice Risk Management. 15.
