A Vacancy at North London NHS Foundation Trust.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join an enthusiastic and dynamic team, working alongside GPs and Integrated Neighbourhood teams in the community in Camden.

This post is for 0.7 WTE Consultant Psychiatrist working within the South Camden Crisis Team as work progresses with the transformation of community mental health services in line with the NHS Long Term plan.

This is a substantive post that has become vacant after the previous post holder retired. It was offered as a 1 year fixed term post whilst awaiting JD approval from the RCPsych for the substantive post.

National terms and conditions apply to this post. Inner London Weighting applies.

The objectives of the CRHTT are:
• To provide a psychiatric crisis service to the residents of Camden and from neighbouring boroughs where they have specifically been referred to the team.
• To provide a 24 hour, 7 day, all year rapid response to crisis situations
• To deliver evidence based care
• To be flexible to clients’ needs, providing support in the most appropriate style and environment

As the NLFT we are a strong and influential voice for mental health to ensure that everyone gets the most appropriate care, when they need it - wherever they live and whatever their circumstances. We provide 24/7 support for local people in a mental health crisis and if inpatient care is needed, we admit to one of our beds locally, so our service users are as close as possible to their family and friends. We employ almost 6,000 staff and are working hard to make sure they feel valued and are supported to develop their careers and to stay with us as long as possible.

• Medical input and leadership in care planning and risk assessment for patients under the team.
• Regular clinical supervision as required to the Advanced Clinical Practitioner/Non-medical prescriber in the team.
• Carrying out Mental Health Act assessments when required.
• Regular clinical liaison with the relevant community, inpatient, liaison and perinatal teams and their Consultants.
• Close clinical liaison with the inpatient service, helping facilitate early discharge of patients back into the community where appropriate.
• Weekly attendance at the bed management meeting.
• Clinical leadership in facilitating physical health care checks for all patients under the team.
• Regular direct assessments of patients referred to the team with a focus on complex cases and high risk. This will take place at the team base and in patients’ homes. There will be 2 out-patient clinics per week for this purpose. Most patients seen by the post holder will be patients recently taken on for treatment by the crisis team. Most new assessments are carried out by non-medical staff, with subsequent review by the consultant or trainee doctors. The number of patients seen directly by the post holder in this way will be around 4 – 6 per week.
• Minimum twice-weekly multi-disciplinary chart reviews of all patients under the team.
• Medical report writing as and when required.
• Close liaison as required with GPs referring to the team.
• Assist with Serious Incident investigations and complaints when required.
• Provide second opinions for Consultant colleagues if requested.
• Support Clinical Governance projects, particularly audits projects in the Division plan.
• Provide annual and study leave cover for colleagues
• Ensure that a structured programme of learning is in place for medical students when attached to the team.
• Attend and participate in Consultants' and Management meetings to keep informed of service issues and developments, including the Clinical Advisory Group, Medical Advisory Group.
