About the job.
Here at National Highways, we're offering an exciting opportunity for a highly adaptable Project Manager to take on a dual-focus role in our Operations Directorate. You'll spend three days a week driving delivery of the Operations Health, Safety & Wellbeing (HS&W) Plan, and two days supporting the Planning & Performance team.
In the HS&W space, you'll collaborate with workstream owners to keep delivery plans on track, manage change control, coordinate targeted communications, measure impact, and run governance meetings (preparing agendas, minutes, and reports) whilst providing direct support to the Project Sponsor.
In Planning & Performance, you'll contribute to business planning, metric assurance, providing information to key external stakeholders and wider performance reporting.
- Lead flexible business support to ensure projects, programmes, portfolio and work streams deliver impact and value for money. This includes delivery to time, quality, cost, and are compliant with our governance frameworks and statutory accounting requirements.
- Management of project schedule and risk. You will identify and evaluate emerging risks, issues, opportunities, dependencies and constraints associated with programmes and divisions, escalating where appropriate and developing solutions to overcome or capture them.
- Working with National Highways regional teams to ensure a full understanding and alignment of project objectives, strategies and within a wider asset management context.
- Developing and maintaining strong collaborative relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, to ensure full mutual understanding of the projects' strategic and delivery objectives, to report on and review project(s) performance, and to agree solutions that resolve complex issues.
- Managing the performance of project teams, external contractors and consultants as required.
About you.
- Delivery focused, with the ability to prioritise, work to tight deadlines and have excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and influence stakeholder relationships towards positive outcomes.
- Demonstrable experience of managing programmes of work through development and delivery.
- Strong presentation and communication skills, both in person and in writing. Ability to communicate persuasively to different audiences.
- Holds or able to attain a certified accreditation project or programme management qualification at IPMA level C and professional accreditation (full Member of APM(MAPM or appropriate professional body for their specialist field) or a willingness and commitment to attain (Desirable)

External candidates will be offered a starting salary at the lower end of the pay scale, while current employees will be appointed in accordance with our established pay policy.
