The role:
To provide technical leadership and direction to the site in the area of environmental and safety related issues. To ensure the site complies with all associated legislative and corporate standards in relation to Safety and the Environment.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Lead site to achievement of all ES targets and legal / corporate requirements, through communication, execution and review processes
Act as appointed person for the site in all ES areas requiring such a role
Manage process for contractor orientation and training with regard to ES procedures
Ensure compliance of site with all legal and VPO ES requirements, including, but not restricted to:
Crisis management and emergency systems
Development and compliance with ES management systems
ES training across the full site
Compliance with legislation in relation to by-products and waste treatment
Accident reporting and investigation
Completion of departmental checklists
Performance Management & compliance with disciplinary procedures
Coach and develop the Departmental and Management Team in areas relating to ES
Raise the profile of ES within the Brewery through promotional activity and initiatives
As part of the local SMT, contribute to the creation of the overall vision and strategic direction of the brewery and implements change programmes where necessary.
Ensure compliance with agreed site budgets
Balance the constant search for new improved ways of working, together with the sustained implementation of agreed ways of working
Act as a driver for ES improvements across the site
Ensure responsibility and accountability are driven to and enforced at the lowest level within the day to day operations
Ensure effective ES communication and co-ordination across the brewery
Who we’re looking for:
Education
Degree or equivalent in Environmental Science or equivalent Safety qualification
Corporate Membership of Safety and/or Environmental Professional Organisation
Chartered Safety Practitioner
Experience
Excellent project management experience
Previous experience of managing teams
Experience meeting challenging targets and KPIs
Experience of management systems, preferably within ES environment
Experience of working with Safety and Environmental principles and techniques
Excellent knowledge of manufacturing principles, tools and techniques
Good record of delivering process improvement
Good record of managing contractor relationships
Technical Competencies
Sound Knowledge of the environment and safety management processes
Strong organization skills; adheres to deadlines
Demonstrates negotiation skills
Basic business sense, analytical and problem solving skills
Computer skills (Excel, Powerpoint, MS Project etc.);
Flexibility
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Good listener, with the ability to quickly gain rapport and trust across all levels
Strong influencer, able to challenge management and staff where appropriate
Highly results focused, and with a strong attention to detail
