Please note this is not a Swansea city council job. You will be working with a private client who received direct payments.
Hi, I am a shy 9-year-old boy who likes, swimming, trampolining and gymnastics. I am autistic and I have some developmental delay. I don’t speak much at all, but I can show you what I like and don’t like if you show me what is happening or where we are going. I need a kind, patient adult to take me out to places I like, to have fun and keep me safe.
I have no awareness of danger, so you need to always hold my hand unless we are in a safe secure area. I am happy in the car, but I need to know where we will be going.
Female or Male. Ratio of 1-1.
Driver required to take me out.
Hours of work:
4 hours per week during term time and 8 hours per week during school holidays.
Essential:
You must be fast, and able to keep up with me, because I am oblivious to danger, and quite impulsive. You must be patient and kind. You must be experienced in working with young people who have Autism. This is a one-to-one position, and you will be expected to work with me only, and no other children while we are together.
Desirable/I’d prefer if:
You know first aid.
I will need my PA to:
Respect and understand the importance of privacy and confidentiality.
Be confident, mature and have patience.
Be dependable and arrive on time.
Be friendly with an easy-going manner.
Be adaptable and flexible.
Be supportive but not take over.
Have business insurance on your car to take clients out.
Concerning the position
A trial period will be necessary in the first instance in the form of a six-month probationary period. Salary will be paid monthly (Annual leave is calculated on a pro rata basis). A DBS MUST be processed prior to any commencement of employment. Costs of DBS will be met by Swansea council where applicant is eligible.
