JOB DESCRIPTION
Post Early Years Practitioner – Level 3
Location Communityworks, Undercliffe Lane, Bradford BD3 0DW
Accountable to Nursery Manager
Hours 37.5 hours 8.30am – 4.30pm; Mon – Fri (Term Time Only)
Contract: Permanent
Job Summary
Under the guidance of the management team take a leading role to provide high quality nursery provision for children from 2 to 4 years old, in accordance with the agreed Operational plan and Communityworks policies and procedures.
Probationary Period: All temporary positions have a probationary period for the first 6 months of employment.
Principal roles and responsibilities
• Under the guidance of the nursery management team plan, implement, develop, and evaluate provision and learning experiences for all children to ensure that the highest quality of care and education is provided.
• To use the Early Years Foundation Stage in conjunction with Development Matters to inform practice.
• To be aware of the need to safeguard children and be vigilant for signs of abuse, reporting to the named person for Child Protection and contributing to the writing of reports when needed.
• To follow all policies and procedures, acting as a role model and setting high expectations.
• To develop positive relationships with parents, involving them in their children’s learning and development, encouraging them to make use of other provision within the setting and supporting them to access training or employment.
• To lead collaboratively with all other level 3 practitioners to facilitate and contribute to effective communication and teamwork within the nursery and have a wider working relationship with all professionals in the Centre.
• To identify own training needs for professional development.
• Ensure Health and Safety systems, hygiene, daily risk assessments both indoors and outside are maintained in line with EYFS Welfare Requirements.
• Ensure equipment and resources are well maintained and organised.
• To follow current legislation and best practice as guided by the SENCO, ensuring the inclusion of all children including those with special needs/disability.
• To be the key person for a group of children, maintaining individual evidence-based files which show examples of observation and assessment, and the progress children are making in their learning.
• To respect and uphold confidentiality in all matters relating to staff, children and families connected to the nursery and other professionals.
• To promote excellent partnerships with parents/ carers, to welcome them and ensure good communication, passing on relevant information regarding their children. Any queries and concerns should be passed to senior staff.
• As required take responsibility for a particular project or area of work.
• Daily supervision and support of trainees, students, or volunteers.
• In exceptional circumstances in the absence of other senior staff, take responsibility for the Welfare Requirements and the security of the building.
• To be flexible within the working practices of the nursery and undertake any other duties commensurate with the responsibilities and level of the post, e.g. attending out of hours activities training, meetings etc, to a reasonable level.
Pay and conditions
Salary: SCP 6 - 8: £25,989 - £26,824 (Pro rata) (pay award pending)
Actual Pay Term Time Only – £21431.97 - £22120.55
Hourly Rates - £13.29 - £13.72
Holiday entitlement: 5 weeks per annum + 8 public holidays pro rata
4 weeks paid holiday are paid for term time only jobs, however holidays may not be taken during term time.
Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974
Because of the nature of the work, this post is exempt from the provisions of Section 4(2) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (exceptions) Order 1975. Applicants for the post are not entitled to withhold information about convictions which for other purposes are ‘spent’ under the provisions of the Act. In the event of employment any failure to disclose such convictions may result in disciplinary action or dismissal. Any information given will be completely confidential and will be considered only in relation to an application for a position to which the order applies.
