Are you passionate about creating and maintaining beautiful, sustainable outdoor spaces? We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Grounds Maintenance Operations Manager to support a local council to lead and develop our Grounds Maintenance services.


About the Role

You will be responsible for the operational management, control, direction, and development of Grounds Maintenance services, ensuring high-quality, efficient, and cost-effective delivery. This includes oversight of in-house service providers (DSOs) and deputising for the Acting Director (Street Scene) when required.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage Grounds Maintenance operations, including Recycling, Nature Conservation, Sustainability, Contract Management, Landscape Practice Group, Golf Services, and Floral Enhancements.
  • Ensure performance targets and KPIs are met, aligned with the City's strategic goals.
  • Maintain horticultural standards across all contracts and services.
  • Drive improvements in customer satisfaction and promote increased use of Parks and Open Spaces.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, partners, and agencies to enhance service provision.
  • Develop and implement capital expenditure programmes for parks, open spaces, and play facilities.
  • Represent the Directorate in national and regional parks and horticultural bodies.
  • Oversee maintenance of playground facilities city-wide.

  • Proven experience in ground maintenance or a related operational management role.
  • Strong leadership and performance management skills.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication abilities.
  • Financial acumen with experience of managing budgets and resources.
  • Commitment to sustainability, customer service, and continuous improvement
