The Director of Postgraduate Medical Education is responsible on behalf of the Trust for the delivery of postgraduate medical education identified within the Learning and Development Agreement.
The Director of Postgraduate Medical Education is the representative of HEE and the Deputy Postgraduate Dean in the Trust.
The fundamental requirements of the DME role are stable, but the postgraduate medical education environment is continually changing, and the functions associated with the DME role may require adjustment from time to time, after discussion.
· To support and ensure maintenance of General Medical Council (GMC) education standards for Foundation and Specialty trainees in collaboration with Post Graduate Schools.
· To liaise with other Educational Leaders e.g. GPs, Tutors, Directors of HR, Nursing and Multi Professional Trainers, towards the development of multi-professional learning, as appropriate.
· To liaise with Trust management on matters concerning doctors in training.
· To ensure excellent provision of Training and quality assurance of Educational and Clinical Supervisors.
· To evaluate the delivery and effectiveness of education by the Deputy DME’s (3 in total).
· To facilitate monitoring and evaluation in conjunction with the Deputy DME’s, the uptake and effectiveness of education including continuing professional development (CPD).
· To actively be involved in educational governance.
· To monitor quality and access of the educational facilities provision to medical staff.
· To liaise with other health professionals to help monitor professional learning.
· To support the Trust SAS Tutor.
· To support Revalidation processes concerning doctors in training including exception reporting and investigating or overseeing the investigation of conduct/capability concerns, Serious Incidents and complaints involving doctors in training
