Do you have an interest in supporting your local NHS Trust to care for our patients? Do you feel motivated and excited about the prospect of joining the board of a busy Trust, as part of a wider Group, delivering hospital and community services? If so, we would be very interested in hearing from you.
We are seeking to appoint an Associate Non-Executive Director to address specific skills gaps and to support succession planning. We are therefore looking for an individual interested in such a role and who has the skills and experience described below.
As a non-voting Associate Non-Executive of the NLaG board the successful candidate would be involved in setting and driving the Trust’s strategic direction, monitoring operational performance and programmes of work and ensuring the Trust fulfils its statutory responsibilities. This is a key role in improving performance, and promoting the highest standards of quality, performance and governance.
The successful candidate will work with Executive and Non-Executive Director colleagues to offer support by overseeing, challenging, and gaining assurance on key performance and risk issues.
The ideal candidate will have strong influencing skills, the ability to hold others to account, and appropriate senior management experience within private, public or third sector organisations. The ideal candidate will also have experience of partnership engagement and communication.
As an Associate Non-Executive Director, the successful candidate will be expected to conduct the following duties:
Support the development of the vision, strategy and objectives for the Trust / Group.
Support the development of the culture & values for the Trust / Group.
Hold the Executives to account for delivery of the Trust / Group objectives and priorities by providing purposeful, constructive scrutiny and challenge.
Ensure that the Trust / Group manages risk effectively and in accordance with its risk management strategy and risk appetite.
Promote and champion the delivery of high-quality care in all the Trusts’ services.
Support the Group Chair, Group Chief Executive and Group Executive Directors in the governance and stewardship of the Trust / Group.
Participate in activities where it has been agreed that Non-Executive Director involvement would bring an external and independent perspective.
Work in conjunction with the NLaG Council of Governors to promote public sector values and the interests of patients and members through good corporate governance.
Participate in the processes for the appointment, remuneration and, where necessary, removal of executive directors and for succession planning.
Attend and contribute to the regular bi-monthly Board of Directors’ meetings, quarterly NLaG Council of Governor meetings, regular board committee meetings and board development activities.

Candidates will ideally live within the communities we serve, which consist of North Lincolnshire, North East Lincolnshire, Goole & Howdenshire, and East & West Lindsey. However, to ensure we recruit the right candidate we will also accept applications from residents of the whole of Lincolnshire. Candidates living outside of these areas are ineligible to apply.
Candidates are eligible to become a member of the NLaG Foundation Trust and membership will be a requirement on appointment. Appointment to this role is subject to ratification by the Council of Governors.
