Welfare Benefits Advisor
Overall purpose

1. To deliver accurate and accessible welfare benefits information and advice through the Benefits Helpline, home visits, and office-based appointments. The role aims to promote financial inclusion by helping clients understand their rights and entitlements, navigate the benefits system with confidence, and make appropriate claims for welfare benefits and other available financial support.

2. To support clients in applying for and renewing Magdalen and Lasher pensions, and to apply for Magdalen and Lasher grants where appropriate. The role also includes assessing clients' eligibility for welfare benefits and providing practical assistance throughout the application process.

POST SPECIFICATION

Main Responsibilities

Advice Work
• Undertake telephone advice sessions on a roster basis.
• Provide office-based appointments and home visits as required.
• Carry out casework and advocacy work arising from telephone sessions, office-based appointments and home visits.
• Identify cases for other HARC Projects and hand over to the relevant advisor where appropriate.
• Identify cases for signposting and/or referral to other frontline services.

Magdalen & Lasher
• Carry out home visits to complete Magdalen & Lasher pension application and pension renewal forms.
• As required carry out home visits to complete Magdalen & Lasher grant applications.

Administration
• Record and collect statistics on client enquiries using HARC's case management systems.
• Submit and present reports to the management team on statistics and items of information relevant to the role as and when required, including any monitoring reports.
• Keep accurate, confidential, case records.
• Attend regular Magdalen and Lasher meetings as required.
• Keep up to date with relevant legislation, policies and practices.
• Build up the resources of information for advice work.

Outreach, Liaison and Publicity
• Represent HARC, maintain links and share information with other voluntary agencies, community groups, charitable bodies and statutory organisations as directed by the management team.
• Take part in specific national and local take-up campaigns and education work as directed and as priorities allow.

General Duties
• Attend training courses/seminars as required.
• Attend staff meetings.
• Be self-servicing.
• Participate in office rosters as necessary.
• Adhere to HARC's equality and diversity policy and implement any practice guidelines in the course of duties.
