We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Occupational therapist to join our Integrated Community Stroke Therapy Team, based at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary Hospital, working across both inpatient and community settings. This position will be a fixed-term opportunity, covering for maternity leave.
Our Stroke Therapy Teamoperateswithin a culture of a strong, supportive multi-disciplinary team which consists of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists as well as Assistant Practitioners. We promote an inter-disciplinary approach. We work together to support patients to choose, set and work towards meeting goals, helping to enable positive rehabilitation outcomes andfacilitatetimelydischarge from hospital.
Our Stroke Therapy Team is committed tofacilitatingan environment which promotes professional development and engagement with research opportunities. This both in house and in collaboration with local universities. There is encouragement given to engage with regular clinical and managerial supervision, to help promote personal professional development and an interdisciplinary approach is taken with the facilitation of clinical supervision for our Assistant Practitioners.
We are able to offer you the opportunity to join our interdisciplinary Stroke Therapy team and develop your clinical knowledge and skills.
You will primarily work in an acute hospital, based at the RIL. However, therem ay be opportunities to gain experience across our community pathway too.
Staff develop their knowledge and skills using our appraisal process and we actively support staff through supervision with in-service training opportunities and a peer support group.
Requirements:-
- You will have A Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy approved by the Royal College of Occupational Therapists
- Registration with HCPC as an Occupational Therapist
- The ability to travel between sites and in the community.

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
Our community services for adults are provided in people’s homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals and our main hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care, advice and support.
