Hours: 18.5 hours per week

The Opportunity
You will be responsible for consistently delivering an outstanding customer service experience to all visitors, learners, and colleagues. You will be the welcoming face of the college, whether greeting people in person, answering telephone calls, or responding to electronic enquiries. Your role will involve ensuring that everyone receives accurate, clear, and helpful information, while promoting a positive and professional image. You will also provide administrative support to our friendly Student Recruitment team, assisting with admissions processes and student recruitment-related activities.
You will handle a wide range of front-of-house and administrative tasks, from operating the college’s switchboard and visitor booking system to processing ID cards and managing associated records. You will work across various sites within Barnsley, adapting to different environments while maintaining a consistently high standard of service. This will include supporting student recruitment events, helping coordinate enrolment activities, and following up with applicants to encourage attendance.
Alongside your reception duties, you will contribute to data management and reporting, ensuring records are accurate and up to date. You will also gather feedback from customers to help the department monitor performance and improve services. Working in this role means being flexible, approachable, and committed to supporting the college values, including safeguarding requirements and compliance with data protection guidelines.
This is a great opportunity to work in a role where no two days are the same, giving you the chance to interact with a wide range of people, from prospective students and parents to staff, employers, and members of the community. You will be at the heart of the College’s first impressions, playing an important part in making every visitor feel valued and supported.
About You
We are looking for someone who is confident, approachable, and committed to delivering an excellent customer experience. You will have at least two years’ experience working in a busy, customer-focused environment, using a wide range of administrative processes and procedures to provide a professional and efficient service. You will be comfortable interacting with a diverse range of people, whether face to face, over the phone, or by email, and you will adapt your approach to suit different situations while always maintaining a friendly and professional manner.
You will bring experience of using switchboards, working proactively with both internal and external customers, and coordinating or administering events and activities. You will have the ability to deal with difficult front-line situations tactfully and effectively, ensuring that issues are resolved promptly and with a positive outcome. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, along with good IT skills, including the confident use of Microsoft Office packages to record timely and accurate data. You will also have experience producing reports and analysing data and trends to inform improvements.
You will work across different college sites and, on occasion, during evenings or weekends. You should also share our commitment to safeguarding and data protection, ensuring confidentiality and accuracy in all aspects of your work.
