The role

We are seeking an enthusiastic Technical Specialist to support high-quality teaching and research activities in Psychology. The successful candidate will provide expert advice and training on a range of equipment (including EEG, eye-tracking and virtual reality) and software (including survey, experiment and data analysis software) to staff and students at all levels of study.

Working alongside academic colleagues, the post-holder will support the design and delivery of practical workshops, and provide tailored support to researchers with their study setup, recruitment and analysis. The post-holder will also oversee the day-to-day running of the Psychology facilities, which includes the management of a booking system, undertaking first-line maintenance of equipment, and ensuring safe operating procedures are in place.

This is a part-time (0.6FTE) post and the required working days are Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. The role is available on a fixed-term basis until 17th April 2026.

The team

The post-holder will be part of the university’s Specialist Technical Team who are proud signatories of the Technician Commitment, working towards ensuring visibility, recognition, career development and sustainability of technical skills.

Required skills and experience

Applicants will have a degree in Psychology or substantial practical experience in a related field. We are looking for a proactive individual, with highly competent technical skills and an ability to work well both autonomously and collaboratively.
