Summary

At Serco, we provide vital accommodation and support services for people seeking asylum while their claims are processed. We manage a large and diverse property portfolio, investing heavily to improve quality standards so that those in our care have safe, comfortable homes and access to essential services.
We’re now looking for a Maintenance Operative to join our Asylum Accommodation and Support Services Contract (AASC) team in Wigan.

What you’ll be doing:

-
Carrying out building maintenance across allocated properties, ensuring they meet Home Office standards and are free from defects.

-
Reporting and tracking faults through our IT system, liaising with approved subcontractors, and auditing the quality of their work.

-
Performing annual Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) and delivering specialist trade services to certified standards.

-
Providing technical advice, trade sign-offs, and ensuring safety compliance before starting any work.

-
Repairing Serco-supplied furniture where possible and sourcing materials from approved suppliers.

-
Managing records, receipts, and purchase approvals for tools or equipment over £100.



What we’re looking for:

-
A valid UK driver’s licence and willingness to travel within the region (and occasionally across the UK).

-
Previous experience as a tradesperson or strong DIY skills.

-
Highly motivated, able to work independently and as part of a team.

-
Flexibility to take part in an on-call rota and occasional out-of-hours work to ensure 24/7 maintenance coverage.
