We are looking for an exceptional Senior Operations Manager to join our team at the Royal Free Hospital. This post sits within the Acute Medicine, Emergency Care and Older People Division. This is both a challenging and exciting place to work. While we face the same financial and performance pressures as all NHS Trusts, we are undertaking significant projects to improve healthcare delivery through the UEC Improvement Programme launched in July 2024.

You will be operationally responsible for acute medicine, emergency department and older people’s services, including four wards, frailty team, Same day emergency care, Acute assessment Unit and UTC and the recently established Royal Free@Home Virtual Ward. You will be providing leadership with the Divisional Clinical director and Head of Nursing across the Division . You will therefore have well-honed performance management skills coupled with an understanding and appreciation of complex clinical and discharge pathways. You will also head up a range of service development initiatives directly as well as working with and through your teams, colleagues and peers to deliver Divisional wide improvement.

Your ability to engage and lead teams through change and act as an expert negotiator will be vital. You will deliver a selection of productivity schemes and therefore will have strong business management skills coupled with sound financial knowledge.

The Royal Free London NHS FT believes in developing talent so the successful individual will be supported with any relevant training and mentorship necessary for success in the role. We are seeking an astute, talented leader so if this sounds like you and you are looking for a position where you are valued, developed and constructively challenged every day, then don’t miss out on this opportunity. There is a well-established Proud2bOps@RFH Network which will be joined by a Group Wide Proud2bAdmin network being launched in November 2025.

We are looking for an applicant with experience of working in an operational capacity, preferably in an Emergency Department, and has an up to date and clear understanding of the urgent and emergency care pathway in an acute setting.

The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust is one of the UK’s biggest and most innovative trusts. Across three main hospitals, our dedicated army of staff care for over 1.6million patients, treat more than 200,000 in A&E, deliver over 8,000 babies and carry out more than 17million tests.

Our size, scale and influence offer you unrivalled career opportunities and a forward-thinking approach to working that works around your lifestyle. From flexible hours and generous benefits, to next level training, we make it easier to take your career to the top
