About the Role

Are you a Trainee Solicitor approaching qualification or a newly qualified Solicitor looking to build your career in public sector law? Join our established Contracts and Commercial Team and contribute to a wide range of complex legal matters that support the Council’s strategic and operational goals.

You will work closely with experienced Solicitors, providing legal advice to Councillors and officers across the Council. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain exposure to high-profile, meaningful work in a supportive and collaborative environment.

The role involves:

  • negotiating, drafting and reviewing a wide variety of contract documents
  • advising upon a range of related non-contentious contract, commercial and procurement issues
  • providing support to a variety of corporate procurement activities
  • reviewing and advising on terms issued within formal tender processes

About You

We’re looking for someone who is enthusiastic, proactive, and committed to public service.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Qualified Solicitor or Barrister (or due to qualify shortly)
  • Demonstrable understanding of legal work in a local government context
  • Ability to prepare comprehensive legal reports with minimal supervision
  • A collaborative team player with a keen interest in public sector law
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience or interest in public procurement law
  • Familiarity with the Procurement Act 2023
  • Previous experience advising public bodies or working in a council legal team
