Job Purpose
The post holder will be responsible for designing and delivering AFG’s data strategy. This includes developing and managing a roadmap to provide the MI/BI required to enable effective performance monitoring of our services and staff, and the insights required for robust, evidence-based decision making. The post holder will help drive changes to the organisation through the design and production of a variety of analytical reports and products that meet management and other stakeholder requirements.
The key objectives of this role are:
To turn data into information, information into insight and insight into business decisions.
To ensure that the right people have the right information in the right format at the right time.
To manage the delivery of AFG’s data strategy.

Key Result Areas
• Key member of the Senior IT Management Team, supporting the Director of IT and Head of IT to deliver the overall data strategy.
• To manage the data team ensuring that the relevant knowledge and skills are achieved to ensure efficient service delivery.
• To manage the performance of individuals through supervision, appraisal, disciplinary and grievance procedures.
• To plan, prioritise and review the workload of the team, to ensure that all key deadlines can be met.
• Identify, extract and analyse data and business information and translate this to useable management information to monitor service/team delivery outputs, impact and outcomes.
• Manage all aspects of system-based reporting and deliver easy-to-use, tailored reports that will minimise workload and facilitate informed decision making.
• Ensure the timely and accurate generation of all reporting, providing consistency and standardisation amongst the various types of reports and databases using a variety of reporting tools.
• Create data dashboards, graphs and visualisations.
• Assist the Exec and Senior Leadership Teams to produce and track key performance indicators.
• Understand and manage relationships between multiple data sources, including case/care management system, finance system, HR system and other available data sources and use to identify improvement opportunities.
• Identify and extract trends from large and complex data sets and be able to interpret and communicate those trends to key stakeholders.
• Work with various stakeholders (management, front-line staff and functional) to understand their data recording, analysis and reporting needs.
• Identify and implement opportunities for increased automation of reporting and improvement through system or process changes and value-add reporting.
• Overall responsibility for data cleansing and data migration activities.
• Highlight opportunities to establish benchmarks or measures to track the impact of changes.
• Be creative, proactive and work on your own initiative.
• Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.
• Role model the use of qualitative and quantitative insight to make robust evidence-based, business decisions.
• Build and manage effective relationships internally and externally.
• To provide guidance and direction to the Business Intelligence (BI) Officer
• Work in a flexible way and undertake any other duties reasonably requested by line management which are commensurate with the role.

Essential Criteria
Skills & Knowledge
• Excellent working knowledge of data visual analytics packages such as Power BI and SSRS
• Highly proficient coding skills and technical understanding, with experience across SQL Server, Integration Services, Analysis Services data model and ETL processes
• Excellent numerical and analytical skills.
• Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to translate requirements into reports, insights and analysis.
• The ability to produce clear graphical representations and data visualisations.
• Excellent written, visual and verbal communication and presentations skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to influence strategy and practice.
• Effective negotiation skills with experience of working with multiple stakeholders at all levels.
• Ability to build strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, adjusting style to the audience.
Experience
• Experience of designing and delivering a data strategy.
• Experience of managing and mentoring more junior members of team.
• Experience in data analysis and reporting from multiple data sources and complex data sets.
• Experience in presenting analyses and reports clearly both in writing and orally whilst taking account of the intended audience.
• A proven ability to identify opportunities for innovation and improvements from business intelligence.
• Experience of using data visual analytics packages to support and deliver reports across an organisation.
• Proven ability to drive change whilst maintaining strong stakeholder relationships.
Qualifications
• Educated to degree level or equivalent.
