Duties:

To undertake a teaching programme and all aspects of the teaching and learning process, including:

  • Classroom teaching, tutorial work and associated outreach duties, residential, open and distance learning courses and student placements
  • All associated organisational and administrative work, preparation and marking and appropriate student welfare and academic counselling responsibilities;
  • Acting as a Personal Tutor to students as required and undertaking all of the associated duties including pastoral care support.
  • Making a full contribution to the team approach to learning and teaching.
  • Implementing a student-centred negotiated learning programme in accordance with the College's curriculum framework.
  • Implementing agreed induction procedures and processes for students.
  • Ensuring that students are informed of what is expected of them at every stage of their programme and that an awareness of what the programme involves is a feature of all reviews undertaken with students.
  • Ensuring that appropriate assignments, tasks and activities are regularly set and assessed and that feedback is given to students in ways that will allow them to develop and achieve progression.
  • Contributing to the organisation of and ensure that there are appropriate work placements.
  • Ensuring that information concerning student discipline is accessible and made available to the relevant Manager.
  • Working with the relevant Manger to identify professional development needs related to the area.
  • Assisting in identifying the resources required for the programme area and planning replacement and updating as necessary.
  • Contributing to the preparation of budget forecasts and helping to ensure that all budget limits are kept.
  • Ensuing that the physical learning environment is well-ordered and stimulating through displays of materials, students' work, etc.
  • Helping to implement the Faculty and programme areas: environmental policies.
  • Developing the requirements arising out of any changes to either the curriculum or syllabus, or the standards set by any relevant external body.

  • Act as a Course Leader for designated course(s), including:
  • Proposing the course structure, its delivery and its assessment schedule
  • Preparing and updating the course handbook
  • Arranging and chairing minuted meetings of the course team
  • Co-ordinating the review and evaluation of the course by the course team
  • Ensuring that actions identified in the self-assessment process and in other Action Plans are implemented in as far as these can be achieved within the allocated resources and are authorised by the Curriculum Area manager/ Deputy Director.
  • Taking responsibility for assessment and quality monitoring, including:
  • ensuring that comprehensive schemes of work and sample lesson plans are checked and lodged in the Quality File / relevant system
  • agreeing assessment schedules
  • agreeing and recording assessment criteria, assessments and marking schemes against requirements of the awarding body
  • sampling students' work and approving assessment decisions made by all members of the team
  • ensuring that assessment procedures and systems conform to the awarding body requirements
  • Ensuring that all students on the course are correctly enrolled and, for any funded course, are registered with the relevant awarding body
  • Keeping up to date records of student performance
  • Ensuring students - and where appropriate their parents/carers and their employers - are kept informed about their progress
  • Keeping information on student destinations
  • Supplying administrative staff with the information needed to ensure students, in particular those aged 16-18, are provided with appropriate work experience/ placements and organising placement visits
  • Briefing and providing support to staff teaching and supporting the course and to technical staff, key workers and other staff who assist students on the course.

To assist the relevant Manager(s) in the management and review of the curriculum in accordance with College policies, including

  • Implementing all college policies relating to the management of learning and teaching and quality.
  • Contributing to the team's yearly curriculum plan and each member of staff's yearly plan of action and providing appropriate records to the relevant Manager.
  • Organising and implementing agreed procedures to enable records of student attendance and progress to be kept and be accessible on demand.
  • Providing all data relating to examinations, statistics, assessments, entry and exit in accordance with College and Faculty practices to the relevant Manager.
  • Working with the relevant Manager on the Evaluation and Review of the curriculum and its activities.
  • Ensuring that all student reviews are of the best possible quality.
  • To participate in liaison activities associated with the programme area and those relating to the Faculty's and College provision.
  • Implementing relevant employer, client, moderator, assessor and examination board links.
  • Contributing to all school liaison activities for the faculty and for other faculties as required.
  • Assisting in the delivery of Parents', Open and Careers evenings and events.
  • Developing publicity materials that are to agreed standards for the area of responsibility and agreed to by the relevant Manager(s)
  • Attending all meetings associated with the area of work and responsibilities.
  • Contributing to the College Admissions Procedures.
  • Working with the appropriate cross college managers in the development of curriculum and learners support for all students.

Develop and maintain professional competence in the post and in other duties performed on behalf of the Faculty or, the College, by:

  • Undertaking an agreed programme of professional development each year which will enhance the skills required to perform the role and responsibilities in line with industry standards and professional bodies.
  • Serving on appropriate College committees and working parties
  • Participating in regular appraisals with the line manager
  • Participating fully in the observation of teaching and learning programme

Qualifications:

- Minimum Level 2 in Maths and English (or equivalent)

- Relevant degree and/or appropriate level professional qualifications

- Minimum level 4 qualification in the relevant area

- Minimum level 5 Teaching qualification

Ideal Attributes:

- Good working knowledge of IT tools (ECDL or equivalent level)

- Highly motivated professional with a range of industry experience and knowledge

- Excellent knowledge of recent initiatives in curriculum development and design
