Our team…
The Revenues service forms part of the larger Customer, Revenues & Welfare and Benefits service. The Revenues service has a clear purpose to deliver the billing, collection and recovery of Council Tax and Business Rates due to the Local Authority to enable it to deliver services to residents.
Role summary…
As a Revenues Inspector you will assist in the services goal of increasing the Council Tax base and Non-Domestic Rate retention. This would be achieved by visiting domestic and commercial properties, liaising with site managers/customers, and gathering evidence of the works taking place with a view to reporting these assessments/changes upon completion of the works. In addition, the inspector would also be utilised to assist with property inspections to verify exemptions, discounts, and reliefs.
Duties and responsibilities…
To work effectively and confidently as an external lone worker.
Ensure all health and safety standards are adhered to and lone worker practices are met.
Provide appropriate documentary evidence from your inspection to enable an accurate report to be issued.
Professionally communicate with customers in organising visits for either pre-planned or ad-hoc inspections.
To accurately determine when a completion notice should be issued and provide the supporting evidence for this.
To liaise with other team members when additional advice and services are required.
Plan, prioritise and organise your workload to meet the needs of the team and ensure deadlines are met.
To attend Valuation Tribunals to present the evidence gathered where a challenge has been made against the completion notice issued.
For this role you will require a full driving licence, access to a car and business use insurance.
For your travel you will be paid mileage at £0.45 per mile for and you will be paid for your travelling time as this would be classed as part of your working day.
What you will bring…
Experience/ Qualifications
A good understanding of planning applications, building control decisions and how these are relevant to the role.
Good communication skills (written and oral) showing your ability to have difficult conversations in a professional and appropriate manner.
Awareness of confidentiality regarding personal information with reference to the Data Protection Act.
Ability to use your initiative and adapt to changing situations.
Experience of working independently outside off an office environment.
A good understanding of health and safety regulations and how these will need to be utilised.
A good technical knowledge of building practices. E.g. 1st/2nd fix, plant and machinery
Knowledge of Council Tax and Business Rate legislation.
