The Chief Operating Officer Group works closely with the Home Office’s policy and operational commands to enable us together to deliver the department’s priorities. The group is comprised of different teams and professional functions, including Commercial, Finance, People, Portfolio and Project Delivery, Security, Estates and Information and Digital, Data and Technology.
We are looking for a motivated and pro-active individual to help strengthen government against insider threats. You will consult on risk management controls and support implementation through services and capacity building.
This proactive and often reactive protective security role is ideal for someone seeking to grow their leadership and communication skills in a dynamic security environment and make a meaningful difference.
Protective Security Centre (PSC) deliver services, capability building and thought leadership to drive down physical and personnel security risks to government. We work with clients across government to understand their security profiles and build bespoke support to address their security needs.
We are seeking a Protective Security Adviser to deliver expert authoritative protective people and physical security advice to government organisations, helping reduce vulnerabilities and mitigate insider threats.
The successful candidate will maintain responsibility for own professional development, maintain a sound understanding of National Technical Authority protective security advice, guidance, and tools (i.e., risk frameworks and maturity models) and Gov 007 security standards.
This is a high-impact role for a pro-active individual seeking to influence protective security policy and practice across government.
Key Responsibilities- Act as the primary point of contact / account manager for designated customers, providing tailored advice and timely respond to queries, while maintaining strong stakeholder relationships.
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of PSC services, tools, and products, aimed at assessing personnel and personal security risks with effective outcomes. You will identify emerging trends and common security risks to improve service delivery. To achieve this, you’ll also be expected to build on your existing security knowledge and skills through continuous learning and professional development.
- Support or deputise for Lead Security Advisers in delivering more complex and bespoke services PSC services, including assessments, facilitate security risk workshops, and security awareness briefings, ensuring consistent and high-quality outputs.
- As a thought leader / Champion to Government develop and share informative insights (e.g., case studies) to influence and inform government and organisational understanding of protective security issues.
- Identify emerging security issues and trends which may impact PSC delivery as well as identifying common themes or risks for further attention and/or development
- Conduct assessments using PSC tools to evaluate personnel, personal and organisational security risk and produce clear, evidence-based reports with actionable recommendations; articulate security threats, risks, vulnerabilities and issues in a non-technical and unambiguous way.
- Translate technical security risks and threats into accessible language for diverse audiences, ensuring clarity and impact in both written and verbal communications.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of National Technical Authority guidance, GSG Policy, risk frameworks, and Gov 007 standards, ensuring advice is current and compliant.
Working Pattern
Due to the business requirements of this role, it is only available on a full-time basis with the option of compressed hours working.
Travel
This role requires frequent travel across the UK to customer sites in addition to engaging virtually where appropriate. This is likely to be on a weekly/fortnightly basis and include overnight stays where required.
