Summary

Shift Times: 8:00 AM – 6:30 PM (Flexible hours may be available)

Job Description:
We are currently looking for a motivated and dedicated Kitchen Assistant to join our team at Wheatfields Hospice, a caring environment where we provide high-quality care to our residents. In this role, you will assist in food preparation, maintaining cleanliness in the kitchen, supporting meal service, and ensuring health and safety standards are met.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist in food preparation and meal service for residents

Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen and dining areas

Manage stock levels and assist with deliveries

Follow dietary requirements and meal preferences for residents

Ensure compliance with health and safety and food hygiene regulations

Support the team in creating a safe and enjoyable dining experience for all residents

Requirements:

A minimum of 1 to 2 years of experience in a kitchen assistant or similar role

Ability to work well within a team and independently

Strong attention to detail and a passion for food safety

Excellent communication skills and a caring attitude

Food Preparation: Assist with basic food prep, such as washing, peeling, chopping vegetables, and helping with simple cooking tasks under supervision.

Maintaining Cleanliness: Ensure that all kitchen areas, utensils, and equipment are kept clean and hygienic. This includes washing dishes, cleaning surfaces, and ensuring the kitchen meets health and safety standards.

Stock Management: Help with receiving deliveries and storing food items correctly. They may also assist with keeping track of stock levels and ensuring that food items are used before they expire.

Assisting with Meal Service: Help in serving food to residents in the care home, ensuring the correct food is provided to the right person, and at the right temperature.

Following Dietary Requirements: Ensure that meals are prepared according to specific dietary requirements or preferences of residents, like special diets or allergies.

Waste Management: Ensure that kitchen waste is disposed of properly and that recycling processes are followed.

Health & Safety: Follow all health and safety guidelines, including proper handling and storage of food, safe use of kitchen equipment, and adhering to the care home’s infection control procedures.

Team Support: Work with other kitchen staff, including chefs and kitchen managers, to ensure the kitchen runs smoothly.
