Rough Sleeper Team Leader

Grade: J/K

Salary: £38,220 - £42,839 per annum

Contract: Permanent

Hours: Full Time contract, Monday – Friday, 37 hours per week. In addition would be expected to be part of an out of hours standby rota to respond to homelessness emergencies within the locality area (additional financial incentives for participation).

Location: Harrogate, North Yorkshire



Harrogate West including (Harrogate, Craven, Hambleton and Richmond). Please be advised you may be asked to work in other locations in North Yorkshire from time to time.


You are expected to hold a valid UK drivers’ licence and have access to your own vehicle that can be used for work purposes.

North Yorkshire Council is offering an exciting opportunity to join our Housing Needs Service as a Housing Options and Support Team Leader. In this crucial role, you will be at the forefront of leading a team to prevent homelessness, so they can provide expert advice, and guide individuals and families through challenging housing situations to secure stable, long-term solutions.

You’ll also play a crucial role in being the face of the Housing Options service at multi-agency meetings and other key meetings with other professionals involved with the teams’ client group. You will also be heavily involved in internal meetings to drive change and improvements across the service.


The role

This role will provide an opportunity to be at the forefront of delivering Rough Sleeper services across North Yorkshire and will play a key role leading the team. Answering to the Housing Needs Service Manager, you will be part of facilitating a full Rough Sleeper response is provided to those clients who are most vulnerable and in housing need.

You will play a key role in supporting the objectives of the Council's Homelessness Strategy and making sure that the team prevent rough sleeping wherever possible and assist households to achieve sustainable housing solutions.

You will have a very strong knowledge and understanding of current housing issues and solutions in respect of both homelessness and rough sleeping. It would be beneficial to have previous experience of assessing need and offering housing advice to the public to achieve effective solutions to housing problems. You will have an awareness and knowledge and commitment to equality and diversity and Health and Safety legislation and of safeguarding responsibilities. Ideally you will have experience of leading a high performing team to successfully achieve ambitious targets.

Essential

· You will bring a passion for delivering high quality services to our customers, often those in the most need, which will meet the needs of our vulnerable communities.

· Excellent communication and negotiation skills are a must: The ability to exchange information effectively with colleagues, customers, and external agencies to solve problems and make decisions. The role also requires the ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team.

· IT Skills: Proficiency in using IT systems to assess case files.

· Customer Service Skills and/ or Team Leader Experience: Experience in providing housing advice, assessing needs, and offering solutions in a client-focused manner. Team Leadership Experience: Leading a high performing team to achieve identified targets. This is a very challenging role that requires someone who is resilient, has empathy and patience to support staff who are themselves dealing with clients in difficult situations.

· Knowledge & Experience: Understanding of current housing issues, homelessness legislation, landlord-tenant law, and safeguarding responsibilities.

· Operational Management: Ensure staff availability to make sure that offices/rotas are covered as required

· Professional Qualifications: Professional qualification in an appropriate subject area.
