Supported Accommodation Handyperson
Salary: £24,796 to £25,989 per annum pro rata
Grade: CD
Contract: Permanent
Hours: Part time, 18.5 hours per week or full time 37 hours per week
Location: Harrogate or Scarborough, North Yorkshire
The Young People's Supported Accommodation Service provides a safe, caring and supportive environment for our young people to live. We are looking for a motivated, reliable, and skilled Handy Person/Maintenance Operative to join our team in Harrogate or Scarborough.
As one of our Handy Person/Maintenance Operatives you will be responsible for ensuring our Supported Accommodation Properties for young people are well maintained and safe. This will include performing routine maintenance tasks and general upkeep. Carrying out Health & Safety checks and reporting matters that require external attention. You will act as a point of contact for external contractors and work closely with colleagues in our property services as required. You will need proven maintenance skills and be able to carry out basic joinery, plumbing, decorating, general repairs and basic grounds maintenance.
You will need to be a motivated self-starter who can work independently managing your time/workload but also as part of a team. You will have good communication skills and be able to use IT systems that support your work and interactions with the wider team.
You will also need to be able to understand the needs of vulnerable young people including children in care and care leavers, and be able to take a caring and patient approach to interacting with residents in our accommodation (training will be given). This may include occasions where their needs may cause disruption to your work plans.
It is essential that the post holder has a driver’s license and is able to meet the travel needs of the post. A full time post would work county wide, while a part time post would generally cover a designated locality e.g. east or west of the county but there would still be times where county wide travel is required.
We can be flexible in the recruitment of this role and can look to appoint either one full time role or 2 part time roles. Please specify on your application which of these options is your preference.
If you would like an informal discussion about the post please contact Mark Walker, Deputy Manager – Supported Accommodation on mark.walker@northyorks.gov.uk or Tel: 07815028540.
Key dates
Closing date: 20th August 2025
Interview date: 29th August 2025
Enhanced Level DBS Disclosure is required for appointment to this post.
NYC are committed to directly recruiting staff and will not accept applications nor services from agency suppliers in respect of our vacancies.
We are committed to meeting the needs of our diverse community and aim to have a workforce reflecting this diversity. We are also committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and adults. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
