KEY DUTIES To have an understanding of the different emotions and needs of the children attending the department, demonstrating good communication skills and a friendly manner. Utilising IT skills ensure patient electronic records are available for consultation and contain relevant information prior to the commencement of the clinic. Give information and advice when appropriate to patients both verbally and written and ensure patients understanding of information and direct patients to other departments when necessary. Carry out appropriate patient care during assessments. Conduct sleep assessments for children and young people who are open to Developmental Paediatrics. Provide behaviour support where necessary for children and young people who are open to Developmental Paediatrics. Undertake Qb screening as part of the ADHD assessment Coordinate other screening ADHD assessments CLINICAL & PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES Arrange, co-ordinate and conduct QB testing for children and young people Use clinical decision making as to whether to retest a child/young person for QB and document reason/s Document observations and results of QB testing, discuss with clinicians as/where necessary Supervise Band 3 with all aspects of QB procedures Arrange and undertake sleep assessments with the support of the nursing staff Develop resources for sleep support for children with neurodevelopmental conditions Ensure that nursing care provided is appropriate and is consistent with clinical guidelines. To ensure confidentiality of patient information at all times. To support trained nursing staff within the department in the delivery of patient care. To ensure the privacy and dignity of patients is paramount and not compromised. To communicate effectively with staff and patients to ensure that the highest possible standard of care is provided to patients. To be caring and competent and to ensure patient safety and well-being is paramount at all times. In accordance with the Health and Social Care Act 2008, the post holder will actively participate in the prevention and control of infection within the capacity of their role. The Act requires the post holder to attend infection prevention and control training on induction and at regular updates and to take responsibility for the practical application of the training in the course of their work. Infection prevention and control must be included in any personal development plan and/or appraisal. ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES Ensure patient records are kept up to date and accurate and recording is done in line with Trust policies and procedures. TEACHING & TRAINING RESPONSIBILITIES To support other colleagues and students within the clinics as appropriate RESEARCH & AUDIT To commence and participate in research/special projects as directed by the Department manager
