An exciting opportunity has arisen due to external funding, to join the existing neurometabolic team to take up a new physiotherapy post for treating adult patients with the rare but debilitating Pompe Disease (acid maltase deficiency, a lysosomal storage disorder (LSD) within the department of Inherited Metabolic Diseases and the Therapy and Rehabilitation Services at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (NHNN).

The funding is limited to two years and the postholder will assess and treat patients with the MDT and independently in telehealth and in clinics. You will liaise with other neurometabolic physiotherapists in England to promote self-management by developing digital solutions. We welcome applications for this part-time Band 7 Physiotherapist role (30 hours per week).

You must have substantive postgraduate experience in a physical, neurological setting. Effective communication and a positive approach to the management of complex disability are essential. Regular supervision and support for continued professional development is offered, and the opportunity to work on projects within your peer group.



To develop a new role of specialist physiotherapist in Pompe Disease and other inherited metabolic disorders in the NHNN Charles Dent Metabolic Unit and collaborate with other LSD treatment centres in the UK to provide a high standard of physiotherapy assessment, treatment and advice for patients with chronic and progressive neuro-disability caused by Pompe disease in an out-patient setting. The post is non-rotational.



The post holder is responsible for the provision of a physiotherapy service to patients with inherited metabolic disorders, prioritising Pompe disease, and reports directly to the consultants in the Charles Dent Metabolic Unit and the acute and outpatient Clinical Specialist in Physiotherapy. The successful candidate must work collaboratively within the integrated multidisciplinary LSD teams to offer a comprehensive patient centred service.
