RESPONSIBLE TO: Administratively the Practice Manager Clinically the Partners JOB SUMMARY The Healthcare Assistant (HCA) will see patients in clinic for a variety of treatments and procedures such as blood tests, NHS health checks, Ear irrigation, diabetic foot checks etc., whilst working under specific protocols and guidelines. The HCA will work within their clinical boundaries to be able to demonstrate safe, competent clinical decision-making and deliver expert care, maintaining patient confidentiality at all times. The role will involve independent and autonomous working as well as working cohesively as part of both the individual teams and the wider Practice team. The HCA will be supported by their fellow clinical team (Nurses, Pharmacists, GPs). KEY DUTIES Undertake blood tests, blood pressure checks, height, weight, and BMI checks. Undertake NHS and new patient health checks. Undertake diabetic foot checks, Ear Irrigation, Asthma checks, B12, and other nursing activities depending on experience Assist with vaccination clinics such as Influenza and RSV Assist with urinalysis and sample checks. Ensure patient confidentiality, respect, and dignity is adhered to at all times. OTHER DUTIES Undertake administrative duties such as room stocking, fridge temperature checks, and clinical waste removal. Provide lifestyle advice to patients and make referrals within the Practice. Act as a chaperone at the patient or GPs request, annotating records appropriately. Ensure specimens (cytology, blood, urine etc.) are taken per protocols, recorded in patient records, and labelled correctly. Ensure patients are comfortable and confirm consent before treatment. Use Ardens templates to record accurate and legible notes. See extra or emergency patients when necessary. Contribute to local and national practice targets (e.g., QOF, ECF). Ensure safe and competent clinical practice; seek further training if needed. Deliver high quality, compassionate care focused on promoting health, self-care, and independence. Take responsibility for personal development to meet professional requirements. Participate in training and induction of students and staff. Complete statutory and mandatory training. Uphold professional and ethical conduct. Collect data/statistics when required. Attend and contribute to meetings as requested. Patient records must not be accessed without clinical or administrative need. Adhere to the Data Protection Act and Caldicott Principles.
