Crynodeb

To provide specialist analytical supervision and support in an area of special interest for investigation and management of patients. To perform complex analytical procedures and interpret their results independently, or as part of a team, in all areas of the microbiology department. As part of Clinical Scientist Duty Rota, referring to Consultant staff when necessary, the CS will advise clinical colleagues on the appropriate selection and timing of laboratory investigations, and undertake detailed interpretation, authorisation, and reporting of laboratory results to appropriate clinical teams. With direct supervision by the responsible duty infection consultant, advise clinicians and other healthcare workers, including senior medical staff, on the interpretation of patient results and communicate management plans. This may involve the instigation of additional tests that may be appropriate for an individual patient. To make judgements on, and take responsibility for, the prioritisation of work of different Consultants and ensure rapid processing of urgent samples. To be responsible to the Lead BMS / Consultant staff for maintaining good standards of discipline, dress, timekeeping, and behaviour of subordinate staff. To be responsible for maintaining and producing accurate records pertaining to work and quality control, including the recording of findings on the Laboratory Information Management Computer System. To act on any results and initiate corrective action, as necessary. To attend all statutory and mandatory training as and when required to do so.
