This role sits in the Estates function, reporting to the Head of Workplace and Facilities Management and is responsible for leading the Health and Safety Delivery function across DfTc.

The role holder will be a strong communicator who can work collaboratively with the G7 Health and Safety Policy Manager and communicate Health and Safety messaging and best practice clearly and enthusiastically across the department.

The role holder will lead the Health and Safety delivery function. This will include working with senior leadership across the Estates team and the wider Department to lead and deliver workplace changes to make the places where people work safer, more efficient and positive places to work. It will involve working with the Health and Safety Policy function and Building Services team across multiple office locations throughout the country to ensure that buildings are as safe as practicable. This will involve planning and implementing changes to buildings and systems as well as leading incident response and management (as the first line Health and Safety function) where Health and Safety incidents require reporting and immediate action.

Your responsibilities will include, but aren’t limited to:
• Planning and delivering proactive changes to Departmental Health and Safety in line with legislative changes.
• Representing Building Services and Health and Safety delivery at the SCS3 chaired People Committee and the SCS2 chaired Health and Safety Committee.
• Controlling the provision of advice to DfT staff regarding any events, concerns, activities taking place at a DfT site.
• Management of the network of Directorate Health and Safety Champions to ensure Health and Safety messaging is delivered across the department.
• Management of Accident Reporting process including coordinating 3 x G7 / SEO colleagues to support process.
• Triage and management of Health and Safety incidents, coordinating H&S team members to manage and respond to incidents.
• Potential line management of 1 x SEO H&S Compliance Manager with responsibility for ensuring H&S compliance on the department’s Total Facilities Management contract.
