We are looking to recruit an innovative, inspirational, passionate and exceptionally effective Head of Commissioning and Partnerships to join our amazing Children’s Services and help play a central role in achieving positive outcomes for children in Salford

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join Salford’s Children Services as a Head of Service for Commissioning and Partnerships and responsible additionally for some service delivery areas. The current post holder is moving to a post closer to home following a successful period in Salford, leaving an opportunity for someone to join and lead this strong and well-respected team. You will be part of the senior management team and will lead on strategic developments and commissioning both within the city and within Greater Manchester, where Salford have an excellent reputation for innovation and transformation.

The portfolio includes Emotional Well Being and CAMHS across the Local Authority and NHS Greater Manchester ICB Salford Locality, Cared for Services including Placement Finding, Children with Complex and Additional Needs including SEND Commissioning, Early Help Services, Domestic Abuse, Orthodox Jewish Services, and a range of individual contracts along with SIASS and Customer First (complaints and compliment) Services. The post will also oversee the Skyline commissioning as part of the Regional Care Cooperative, so this is an exciting opportunity to oversee the commissioning development of 10 homes for children in Greater Manchester.

You will be supported to further grow your skill set, with plenty of development opportunities, and will have the autonomy to make your own decisions, the service has undergone significant development so we will need a strong stable leader to embed the changes and support stability.

Your voice, and that of your team, will be critical in ensuring all aspects of commissioning and procurement are carried out to a high standard, to deliver strong outcomes, achieving value for money, striving for innovation, and delivering Social Value whilst working within statutory frameworks and regulatory guidance.

You will have strong interpersonal and leadership skills, be an effective communicator, understand and practice strength-based connections with colleagues and stakeholders, have the confidence to challenge whilst maintaining key relationships and thrive in a working environment where you are thinking on your feet and solution focused. You will have sound professional judgement, creative, highly motivated and resilient. Central to every action you take will be “Is this the best we can do?” and “Is this good enough for my child?”

Reporting to the Director of Childrens Commissioning, Nursing and Wellbeing in Childrens services you will have a varied role and the chance to make it your own

You will need to clearly evidence

  • Extensive previous commissioning experience
  • Degree level qualifications
  • Dedication to improving outcomes for Children, Young People and Families
  • An outcome focused approach
  • Have brilliant communication skills both verbally and written
  • An ability to build strong relationships with practitioners and partners
