Role Overview:

Working within the Council’s Community Safety and Cohesion Service you will support the Council and Partners to comply with the Government’s Prevent Duty, leading on aspects of work, including the delivery of Prevent training, and the development of policies, strategies and projects which support the implementation of the Government’s Prevent Duty including building resilience within the local authority, partner organisations, education establishments and communities to the threat posed by extremism


Key Responsibilities:

  • To lead on the planning and delivery of Prevent training within the Council to ensure practitioners have a clear knowledge and awareness of Prevent and the pathways for referral into Channel and to provide support and advice to external Partners in relation to the Prevent Duty.
  • To co-ordinate and administer Oldham’s Preventing Extremism and Protect Steering Group and support the development of policies, strategies and projects which support compliance with the Prevent Duty.
  • To co-ordinate, deliver and drive aspects of work for which the Oldham Preventing Extremism and Protect Steering Group are accountable, including benchmarking of Prevent activity.
  • To represent Oldham regionally and nationally in Prevent related activity, working with colleagues in local, regional and national Government departments.
  • To work in partnership with statutory organisations and the voluntary, community and faith sector (VCF) to develop, commission and oversee the implementation of projects which support the Prevent Duty on behalf of the Community Safety Partnership.


Key Requirements:

To succeed in this role, you will need as a minimum:

  • Knowledge and understanding of the Government’s Prevent agenda and in particular, an understanding of the implications for local authorities and other partners in implementing the Prevent Duty.
  • Experience of developing and delivering training to a wide variety of audiences.
  • Experience of working in a job role relevant to the post for example prevent, community cohesion, community development, community safety or policing
  • Experience of working effectively in partnership with staff from a range of organisations, including the statutory and voluntary, community and faith sector.
  • Experience of commissioning programmes of activity, including experience of financial management.
