Summary
A vacancy has arisen for a part-time phlebotomist to join a friendly and dedicated team providing a high quality phlebotomy service at Furness General Hospital. The team provides a service for hospital inpatients, outpatients and patients referred by primary care .
The hours of work are 8.5 hours per week , working each Friday 08:00-17:00 with a 30 minute unpaid lunch break.
Previous phlebotomy experience is desirable.
Ensuring that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible and confirming their agreement to the collection of a blood sample. Collection of sample(s) of blood in accordance with training and procedures. Ensuring samples are collected into appropriate containers. Accurate, legible labelling of all samples to confirm patient identity. Checking patient identification against records and confirming with patient whenever possible. Ensuring that samples are dispatched to the appropriate laboratories in a timely fashion. Ensuring that anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff. Notifying ward staff of any significant patient issues.
We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
