This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Band 5 Occupational Therapist who wishes to develop specialist skills in community Paediatrics within a supportive team. We are looking for a creative, friendly, and enthusiastic OT to join our established Children’s Team. We are located near Enfield Town, with easy commuter links from central London/Hertfordshire.

No experience of children's OT is necessary as we will provide in house training and clinical support. However, an ability to work within an Occupational Frame of Reference and a strong desire to work within children’s services is essential.

Main duties

Your job will be to provide specialised assessment and intervention to children (0-18years) with varying needs in community settings, mainstream schools, clinic and at home. You will work alongside the MDT on integrated pathways, including the joint DCD diagnostic clinic.

Enfield OT is committed to evidence-based practice; you will have the opportunity to gain skills in CO-OP and M-CIMT, as well as running groups and parents and school staff training sessions. We are an innovative team and one of the first children’s services to develop leisure groups with local community providers.

This role includes participating in service development and in-service training provision.



Job responsibilities

To provide a high standard Occupational Therapy service to children aged 0-18years referred to Enfield’s Children’s Occupational Therapy Department.

To contribute to service improvements and Quality initiatives within the team.

To be responsible for a defined caseload of children both within the community, working autonomously but with close supervision and clinical support.

To provide family centred, occupationally focused assessment and intervention to disabled children and children with additional needs. To work within the available evidence based and good practice guidelines.

About our AHP strategy

Allied Health Professions (AHPs) are the third largest workforce in the Trust and include dietitians, physiotherapists, podiatrists, occupational therapists, operating department practitioners, orthoptists, diagnostic and therapeutic radiographers, and speech and language therapists.

AHPs can work autonomously, lead teams and have a critical contribution to make to children and adults and all patient journeys including end-of-life care. AHPs provide direct patient care, offer numerous rehabilitation approaches, operate sophisticated diagnostic, screening and treatment equipment, and contribute to broader population health outcomes.

Many patients have complex needs and AHPs, whether working autonomously or in collaboration with other health and social care staff, have a positive impact on health outcomes and are essential to high quality, timely and accessible healthcare.

They build on the work completed in 2020 and provide a framework to support us in achieving our vision to deliver outstanding diagnostics, treatment and rehabilitation and promote the health of our local population in partnership with others.





· To provide assessment and interventions for children with OT needs and to provide expert advice, guidance and information to families, carers, schools, and other professionals.
• To accept clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of children and organise this effectively and efficiently with regard to clinical priorities and use of time.

· To work autonomously but with the ability to know when to seek support and clinical advice.

· To participate in multi-disciplinary assessment and intervention.

· With clinical support as needed to select and apply appropriate OccupationalTherapy assessments for children, addressing occupational performance and enabling the child in areas of self-care, productivity, and leisure.

· To set occupationally focused intervention goals with children and/or their parents/carers that are family centred and agreed by the child and/or their parents/carers.

· To work within an occupational frame of reference.

· To increasingly demonstrate the ability to analyse the interplay of the child, environment and activity when assessing the child’s level of functioning and identifying appropriate strategies and intervention to facilitate and enhance participation in self-care, school, and play/leisure.

· To demonstrate specialist knowledge of evidence-based practice and treatment options using current research, and clinical reasoning skills.

· To plan and implement individual interventions, in collaboration with the child/carer.

· To work with Senior OT’s to provide training sessions to schools and families and group therapy sessions.

· To evaluate interventions through the use of appropriate outcome measures, to ensure effectiveness of intervention.

· To manage clinical risk within own clinical caseload and seek help as needed.
