Royal Free World Class Values: The post holder will offer World Class Care to service users, staff, colleagues, clients and patients alike. CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES 1. To provide clinical dietetic service within designated areas and be actively involved in the development and provision of the nutritional service in those areas. 2. As an autonomous practitioner, to be responsible for safe and efficient management of a patient caseload through assessment of clinical need and effective prioritisation. 3. To provide complex nutritional advice to patients, carers and clinicians based on clinical evidence. This involves the collection and analysis of anthropometry and biochemistry, consideration of the financial/social implications and distress to the patient, their medical condition and individual dietary needs and preferences. 4. To interpret this information and apply clinical judgement and reasoning to assess, evaluate and monitor nutritional status and advise on appropriate, evidence-based dietary interventions. RESPONSIBLITY FOR PATIENTS 1. To maintain accurate, comprehensive professional case notes for all direct and indirect patient contact 2. To communicate effectively with patients, carers and other professionals on an individual or group basis in order to maximise rehabilitation potential and ensure understanding of condition, which will frequently require flexible communication skills including: -motivation -persuasion; -explanation of complex issues including physiology, pathology, biochemistry, anatomy and techniques -gaining consent; -negotiation 3. To occasionally convey information, particularly in highly complex, contentious and emotive situations which may be deemed inappropriate for more junior staff, which may require more developed communication skills. 4. To demonstrate flexibility in communication and interpersonal skills to overcome barriers to communication such as: dysfunctional illness beliefs altered perception and cognition loss of hearing/sight language and cultural barriers distressing information eg. Victims of torture/abuse environmental e.g., lack of privacy, excess noise hostile, antagonistic and highly emotive situations controversial and/or highly complex information long-term illness/dysfunction and/or uncertain prognosis. **For further information please refer to the attached JD/PS**
