About the Role:
We are seeking detailed-oriented and reliable bookkeeper in the Colchester area to manage the financial records for various local businesses and charities. Successful candidates will have a keen eye for detail and a passion for numbers.
Key Responsibilities:
· Maintain and manage all financial records, including purchases, sales, receipts, and payments.
· Record all financial transactions in the appropriate ledger using bookkeeping software, spreadsheets, or database and re submitting VAT returns.
· Reconcile bank statements and report any discrepancies.
· Prepare financial statements, such as balance sheets and income statements.
· Manage payroll functions.
· Ensure financial records comply with legal requirements.
· Provide administrative support and handle communications with clients or suppliers as needed.
· Assist with budget preparation and perform regular internal audits to ensure accuracy.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
· AAT Level 4 qualification or equivalent is highly desirable.
· Familiarity with accounting principles and bookkeeping practices.
· Proficiency a variety of accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero, Sage) as well as MS Office (especially Excel).
· Strong attention to detail and ability to spot numerical errors.
· Good organizational skills and the ability to maintain a complete and systematic set of business transactions.
· Excellent time-management skills and the ability to prioritize work.
· Good communication skills for interacting with clients and colleagues.
· Basic understanding of data privacy standards.
Experience:
Experience in a bookkeeping role is essential, typically 2+ years for mid-level positions.
Familiarity or experience working within the specific industry related to the vacancy can be advantageous.
