Chowrasta is a premium Indian restaurant known for delivering authentic and innovative Indian cuisine in a lively and welcoming setting. We pride ourselves on excellence, tradition, and creativity. We are now looking for an experienced and passionate Tandoor Chef to join our growing kitchen team.
Job Description:
As a Tandoor Chef, you will specialise in preparing a variety of dishes using traditional tandoor cooking techniques. This includes marinating meats, grilling breads such as naan and roti, and executing clay oven cooking to perfection. The ideal candidate should have at least 2 years of experience handling a tandoor in a professional Indian kitchen, with strong knowledge of marination, cooking times, and heat control.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare and cook tandoori items including kebabs, chicken, paneer, breads, and grilled vegetables
Ensure authenticity, consistency, and high-quality presentation
Monitor and manage the tandoor oven temperature and cooking processes
Maintain hygiene and safety standards during all prep and cooking activities
Collaborate with the rest of the kitchen team to ensure smooth kitchen operations
Assist with marination prep, mise en place, and cleaning routines
Maintain stock levels of tandoor ingredients and assist with ordering when needed
Mandatory Requirements:
Minimum 2 years of experience as a Tandoor Chef in an Indian restaurant
Strong knowledge of Indian tandoori techniques and ingredients
Valid Food Safety & Hygiene Level 2 (or higher) certification
Right to work in the UK
Good spoken English
Desirable:
Experience working in Indian restaurants in the UK
Understanding of vegetarian and non-vegetarian grill requirements
Familiarity with allergen labelling and Natasha’s Law
NVQ Level 2/3 in Professional Cookery or equivalent qualification
First Aid certification
