About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Travel Co-ordinator within the School and College Transport Team.

The team manages home to school/college transport provision for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) to support attendance at schools and colleges both in Bury and outside of the borough. The team also fulfils the Council’s statutory duties in relation to travel assistance and free school travel passes.

This is a key position within the team; you will be expected to deliver a high-quality service in relation to all aspects of travel assistance. You will be responsible for delivering a range of activities including the processing of travel assistance applications for pupils with special educational needs, mainstream pupils and college students.

You will have good customer care skills and experience of working with members of the public, both face to face and over the telephone. The role will involve regular liaison with contractors, parents, school staff and other professionals to ensure the safety of those that use the service.

You will provide assistance, advice, guidance and information relating to the service provision. You will need to be computer literate with the ability to work competently with Microsoft Office packages and a bespoke ICT transport management tool.

This is a full-time position working throughout the year. Normal hours of work are 37 hours per week worked in accordance with service requirements. In order to ensure the service is staffed when transport is operational during term-time a rota is in place that includes a 7:30am start or 4:45pm finish time.
