An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Armourer (a technical engineering profession) in what is a safety critical support role.

Key responsibilities:

Provision of competent and effective trade cover to all dependent units within the NI Garrison.
Responsible for the inspection, testing, sentencing, modification and repair of all types of small arms, instruments and miscellaneous mechanical equipment by repair or replacement of minor assemblies, including completion of all technical documentation.
Using proficient technical and engineering skills combined with IT you will deliver to and engage with a wide range of stakeholders and colleagues across NIGSU to ensure smooth operational delivery and high-quality service in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
Level 1 & 2 maintenance of all small arms including of Non Service Pattern Light Weapons (NSPLW), instruments and miscellaneous mechanical equipment held by dependent units in line with current policy and procedures. Ensuring your working practises comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act.
Maintain an awareness of the contents of, and comply with, current AESPs, technical instructions, regulations, unit SOPs, security orders, LAD and other routine orders and legislative requirements.
Security, cleanliness and serviceability of the Armourer workshops in which you are required to work, including all associated tools, STTE, PPE and other items on your charge.
Maintain records of the receipt and issue, inspections and work completed or submitted to external agencies.
Monitor the progress of equipment submitted to external repair agencies.
Ensure vehicles are used in accordance with current regulations.
Be prepared to provide cover for the maintenance of priority weapons outside of normal working hours when deemed operationally essential and support range days/live firing when requested.
Ensure that under no circumstance is live ammunition or any privately owned weapon allowed into the Armourer Workshops and a notice to this effect is displayed at all times.
Manage and maintain all small arms spares in accordance with current regulations.
Assist in maintaining the LAD Calibration Register, ensuring that all equipment is calibrated in line with current regulations.
Use mandated Equipment Support Management Information Systems such as JAMES, TDOL, Eng Standards regulation page etc.
Practise maximum economy in the utilisation of all resources that are available to conduct routine work tasks. Particular attention is to be paid to the conservation of energy and economical use of spares, materials and facilities.
Liaise with and provide technical advice, support and Equipment Care (EC) to units as required.
Compliance with the LAD EMS, the UECD and SHEF regulations and adhere to all risk assessments.
