Safe Opportunities are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Level 3 trained and qualified Communicator for employability to join our team.

This role is essential to provide communication for a post 16 deaf student both in the work place and during training sessions.

The ideal candidate must be trained and qualified in L3 Communication and possess strong organisational skills and a proficiency in communication strategies enabling them to support a student to engage in the Supported Internship programme.

Company Director and the Management team

Hours and Location

Times to be confirmed via individual contracts approximately 20 hours per week

Term time position

Based at employer’s premises, community settings and the office/training room ( Safe Opportunities premises, Crewe).

Salary

Hourly rate to be arranged dependent on experience

Via NEST Pension provider

Annual Leave

Annual leave calculations are issued at the beginning of each academic year and split across monthly salary payments for term time employees.

Overall purpose of the role

To facilitate the students learning through a range of support strategies such as sign, communication, note taking, lip speaking and language modification while supporting the student on their Supported Internship programme.

To work in collaboration with a range of professionals in the workplace and within the training centre to support collaborative working.

To work alongside Grow and Achieve Together job coaches to deliver systematic instruction in the workplace.

To support the delivery of Key Skills lessons to the student alongside qualified teachers.

To support the student to prepare for the Functional Skills Open Awards qualifications and Aim Awards assessments and exams where applicable.

To ensure all Safeguarding and attendance procedures are followed.

To ensure the student works towards clear goals and objective from their EHCP plans.

To ensure training risk assessments are followed, updated and adapted as needed.

To raise awareness of the needs of deaf learners amongst Safe Opportunities students and staff as well as the workplace colleagues.

To support the teams working around the student to learn

To report and record any progress and achievements towards specific targets and outcomes.

To support the Safe Opportunities team with other admin tasks relating to student’s engagement and progress.

Quality:

· Ensure that all procedures, guidance and policies are followed and complied with.

· To ensure that records and data are accurate and kept updated and information is presented when requested.

· To ensure levels of Communication support for the student are of a high standard and support teachers to ensure lessons are accessible, creative and effective.

· To ensure communication with partners is professional, accurately written and well presented.

· To ensure all reports and updates are clear, accurate and professionally presented as per the report writing standards.

Day to day tasks include:

· To provide excellent communication to support the student to access the work placement and training opportunities as part of their Supported Internship.

· To record student’s attendance and follow up re non-attendance following guidance from the company Attendance Coordinator.

· To add records to reviews of Progress and Targets reports and to send out at the end of each week.

· To work with the team to support the student to access learning.

· To support with the access of creative and effective lessons for students.

· To record students’ progress and work with the Teams to ensure progress trackers are updated.

· Support the team to complete risk assessments and ensure all relevant parties receive a copy of any relevant documentation.

· Liaise with parents, social workers, professionals, agencies and employers to ensure a joint approach to supporting the student.

· To support the student to access vocational courses mainly Aim Award qualifications alongside the Open Awards functional skills qualifications.

· Follow all Safeguarding procedures and policies as advised by the Safeguarding Coordinator

· Follow all Safe Opportunities policies and procedures and attend all staff training and Team meetings.

Additional

- Must have Level 3 Certificate in Communication support for Deaf learners

· Must be able to drive with a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle

· Must be flexible with travel to employers, community settings and the training centre.

Job Types: Part-time, Temporary, Fixed term contract, Freelance
Contract length: 6 months

Pay: £25,000.00-£26,000.00 per year

Expected hours: 20 per week
