Your new company
Hays are assisting our client, a large Public Sector Organisation, in their search for a Safer Neighbourhood Officer for 3 months, initially with the possibility of extension. You will predominantly be based in Belfast City Centre.
Your new role
Applicants must possess a full, current driving licence which enables them to drive in Northern Ireland, or have access to a form of transport which enables them to meet the requirements of the post in full.
Applicants must be able to demonstrate at least one year's relevant experience in at least two of the following three areas:
- Enforcement;
- Community engagement; and, or
- Interagency work.
Candidates must hold a UK driving Licence to drive council vehicles and carry out regular patrols and enforcement work throughout all areas of the city. The 'reasonableness' of this adjustment will be thoroughly considered prior to any appointment being made.
Communication and interpersonal skillsExcellent oral communication skills, that is, the ability to deal with internal departments and external bodies and the targeted communities on a range of community safety issues.
Report writing skillsA good standard of literacy and comprehension, that is, the ability to draft letters and reports with clarity.
Team-working skillsThe ability to work effectively as part of a team and to be proactive, innovative and work enthusiastically with others to exceed standards.
Interagency working skillsThe ability to work with communities and other relevant service providers to deliver solutions to identified issues.
Analysis, problem-solving and decision-making skillsThe ability to gather and analyse information and make day-to-day decisions on operational issues so that objectives are achieved.
Political sensitivity skillsThe ability to deal with the public and others in a sensitive way that diffuses any negativity, even in potentially contentious and unpredictable situations.
Technical knowledgeKnowledge of community safety and crime reduction.
Information Technology skillsThe ability to make effective use of information technology and operate a range of standard Microsoft Office programmes.
Work planning skillsThe ability to prioritise and plan work to ensure satisfactory completion.
Shortlisting criteria
In addition to the above driving licence and experience, the candidate must demonstrate personal and specific examples that they have at least one year's relevant experience in community safety, community development, community relations, housing, crime reduction or youth work;

Thursday - 2pm-10pm
Friday - OFF
Saturday - OFF
Never work Sunday or Monday
