This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified Assistant Practitioner to work within our Scrub Team undertaking the role of Assistant Theatre Practitioner.

The Assistant Theatre Practitioner will work as part of the multidisciplinary team to assess, plan, implement and evaluate high quality, safe and compassionate care for patients in the perioperative setting, under the direction / supervision of a registered practitioner.



The postholder will utilise their training, skills and experience, relevant to their particular area of clinical practice, to undertake a range of tasks as defined within the policies and procedures relevant to the clinical area / scope of practice.

The post holder will support the Theatre Leadership Team to ensure standards of practice and care quality are upheld; this includes working to relevant policies, procedures and national standards, as well as acting as a role model, supporting the learning of others and contributing to the development and implementation of improvement ideas.

• Assess, plan, and implement high quality, safe, compassionate, and effective perioperative care for patients, under the direction / supervision of a registered practice and in accordance with scope of practice as determined within Trust policies and procedures.
• Ensure risk management / safety strategies, Trust policies and departmental procedures are adhered to in the delivery of patient care.
• Demonstrate a sound theoretical understanding and practical application of evidence-based, perioperative care standards in line with national recommendations and clinical guidance (e.g., NICE, AfPP).
• Ensure patient safety strategies (e.g., WHO surgical Safety / 5 steps to safer surgery) are implemented consistently and where appropriate, contribute to the development of new initiatives which support the improvement agenda.
• Acts as the patient advocate during the perioperative journey; promotes dignity and respect as well as ensuring the patient is cared for in a way that meets their expectations and maximises patient experience by responding to physical, social and psychological needs.
• Be accountable for own practice and decisions taken, ensuring that only appropriate tasks within scope of practice are accepted or delegated.
