Summary

Level 1 BSL SEN Teaching Assistant - Long-Term Full-Time Role


Location: Didsbury, Greater Manchester
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM
Start Date: As soon as possible

Randstad Education is currently seeking a committed and compassionate Level 1 British Sign Language (BSL) SEN Teaching Assistant for a long-term, full-time position at a supportive school in Didsbury. This is an exciting opportunity to work 1:1 with students who have compounded and complex needs, making a real difference in their educational and personal development.

We are looking for individuals who bring a holistic approach to support, can collaborate effectively with colleagues and families, and are confident in providing personalised care and communication support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 support to pupils with SEN, including those with hearing impairments and complex needs

  • Use Level 1 BSL to support communication where required

  • Assist with personal care and promote independence and self-confidence

  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, therapists, and families to implement EHCPs

  • Foster a calm, safe, and inclusive learning environment

  • Adapt learning materials and communication methods to meet individual needs

Essential Requirements
  • Level 1 BSL qualification (or equivalent communication experience)

  • Minimum 6 month's experience as an SEN Teaching Assistant in a UK school

  • Must have or be willing to apply for an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service

  • Comfortable supporting students with personal care needs

  • Strong understanding of compounded and complex SEN

  • Available to work full-time, Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM

  • Full eligibility to work in the UK (no sponsorship available)

Desirable Attributes
  • Experience supporting students with hearing impairments or communication barriers

  • Ability to work across both Primary and Secondary SEN settings

  • Team player with excellent communication skills and a holistic, child-centred approach

  • Familiarity with implementing and tracking EHCP targets
