The role:

Justteachers is currently recruiting an Autism Support Assistant (ASC) to join a specialist SEMH school. This is a rewarding opportunity to support young people with autism and additional social, emotional, and mental health needs in a nurturing and structured environment.

The school provides a trauma-informed, inclusive setting where pupils are supported to re-engage with learning and develop the skills they need to thrive. You will work closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and external professionals to provide tailored support that meets the individual needs of each learner.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with autism and SEMH needs
• Use structured routines, visual supports, and communication strategies
• Support emotional regulation and behaviour
• Monitor progress and contribute to EHCP reviews and support plans
• Work collaboratively with staff, families, and external agencies

The ideal candidate:

• Experience with children or young people with autism and/or SEMH needs
• Knowledge of autism-specific strategies and communication tools
• A calm, patient, and consistent approach to behaviour and emotional support
• Relevant qualifications (e.g. Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning)
• Two education or care-based references
• Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one)

Justteachers is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. An enhanced DBS including a children’s barred list check and where applicable a vulnerable adults barred list check is required for all successful candidates.

To be considered for the role and the rates advertised, you must meet the minimum experience, training or qualifications stated and have the legal right to work in the UK.
