Summary
A Vacancy at London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust.
We are looking for a consultant haematologist with a focus on adult haemoglobinopathies. The post is based at Central Middlesex Hospital with some clinical commitments at Northwick Park Hospital.
This post attracts a ‘Golden Hello’ payment for new applicants taking a substantive post. Details are below:
· £12,000 golden hello payment for new recruits to be paid in 12 equal monthly instalments.
· Successful candidates will also be eligible for a relocation allowance of £8,000 (if required).
LNWH is a Specialist Haemoglobinopathy Team (SHT) within the North West London Haemoglobinopathy Coordinating Centre (HCC). It offers care to around 500 adult haemoglobinopathy patients, including around 400 patients with sickle cell disease. Outpatient services are currently based at Central Middlesex Hospital (CMH), where the Brent Sickle Centre and Medical Daycare Unit offer clinic and ambulatory services, including red cell exchange and day pain services, as well as nurse and midwife-led pre-conception, antenatal and community services. The centre houses a Haemoglobinopathy and National Newborn Accredited Screening Laboratory offering specialist haemoglobinopathy diagnostics. Acute inpatient services are based at Northwick Park Hospital, where benign haematology inpatients are managed on Drake Ward, our dedicated haematology ward. Cover is facilitated by a red cell attending rota, with separate attending cover for malignant haematology inpatients.
The post is a new position, full time 10PA, in the haematology department of LNWH. A full-time consultant in this role will undertake two specialist haemoglobinopathy clinics per week at CMH, with at least one being a fully multi-disciplinary clinic. A third clinic in an additional benign specialist interest area can be tailored to the applicant’s specific interests. Additional duties will include support of haematology patients on the medical daycare unit, including specific allocation of DCC to support review of patients escalated by the unit’s resident doctor. On-call attending weeks are shared with colleagues on a 1:6 basis, supported by a 24 hour on-call registrar and with clinical activities based at Northwick Park for those weeks.
Attendance in MDT meetings at both a local and HCC level will also be a core part of the role. You will need to work closely with other members of the red cell MDT, and will also be needed to support education and training across the trust to foster excellence in emergency and long-term management of red cell disorders.
The final job plan will be subject to tailoring to the applicants specific role and the following plan represents a specimen plan only. As per departmental policy, there is potential for limited working from home (eg 20% total working) once agreed as part of the consultant’s job plan
London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust (LNWH) cares for the people of Brent, Ealing, Harrow and beyond.
Our team of more than 8,200 clinical and support staff serve a diverse population of almost one million people.
We run major acute services at:
• Northwick Park Hospital: home to one of the busiest emergency departments (A&E) in the country. The hospital provides a full range of services including the country’s top-rated hyper-acute stroke unit and one of only three hyper-acute rehabilitation units in the UK
• St Mark’s Hospital: an internationally renowned specialist centre for bowel disease
• Ealing Hospital: a busy district general hospital providing a range of clinical services, as well as 24/7 emergency department and urgent care centre, and specialist care at Meadow House Hospice
• Central Middlesex Hospital: our planned care site, hosting a range of surgical and outpatient services and collocated with an urgent care centre.
We are a university teaching NHS trust, in recognition of the important role we play in training clinicians of the future and bringing the benefits of research to the public.
